2009 is proving to bring new endeavors to Sara’s career as she will delve into 2 independent movies, one as the leading role. Sara has been enjoying expanding her horizons as she will finish a film/TV acting workshop with hailed teacher Joanna Beckson at the end of the month. 2008 was the triumph of Sara’s career thus far. She was cast as Anybodys in West Side Story on the West End in London at the Sadler’s Wells Theatre directed and choreographed by Broadway’s Joey McKneely. This was a part of a European tour with an out of town tryout in Dusseldorf, Germany, and finishing with a three week long sit-down in Athens, Greece. Where it all began: Sara Rebecca Dobbs was born the middle child of 3 girls in Clayton, MO, a suburb of St. Louis. Sara began her life in music, dance, and theatre at the age of 8, always involved in musical theatre camps, classes, and shows. She also began a long, and successful career as an Irish Dancer, earning an Open Solo status by age 11. She danced with St. Louis Irish Arts, and the Lavin-Cassidy School of Irish Dancing. Her training continued until high school when Sara’s interest in musical theatre required her full attention. She furthered her dance training by transitioning to ballet, tap and jazz at The Center of Contemporary Arts in St. Louis, MO. She also began taking voice lessons with Sheila Regan, a prominent voice teacher in St. Louis. After graduating high school, Sara attended Indiana University where she received a B.A. in Acting. She was trained by the great Shakespearean actor, Howard Jensen, Opera singer Michael Belnap, and studied ballet at the world class Ballet Department within the IU School of Music. At the age of 21 with the support of her professors, family, and the confidence her training gave her, Sara moved to New York to pursue her dream of Broadway. Immediately following graduation, Sara began working regionally, and on tour. This continues today, as Sara gets closer and closer to her dream. She has expanded her horizons to include film and TV, having stared in two independent movies. |
Sara has established herself as an extraordinary triple threat in the New York musical theatre/straight theatre world. From playing the roles of Juliet in Romeo and Juliet, to Anybodys in West Side Story, to Woman 1 in The Vagina Monologues, Sara is as versatile as actors come. Critics claim, “Sara Dobbs proves that dynamite comes in small packages.”
